The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled forwards Alex Nylander and Jansen Harkins.
The Pittsburgh Penguins made a series of roster moves this afternoon. With a slew of injuries popping up and several players returning from injured reserve, the Pens will continue on without their full lineup. The team announced players Bryan Rust, Rickard Rakell, Chad Ruhwedel, and P.O. Joseph are all dealing with a variety of ailments and could miss time.
To help bring in reinforcements, the Penguins announced the recall of forwards Alex Nylander and Jansen Harkins from their AHL affiliate. To make room for the two players on the roster, forward Rakell and defender Ruhwedel were placed on injured reserve. Joseph was also placed on injured reserve earlier this week.
Nylander has five goals and three assists in his first 11 games in Wilkes-Barre. Speedy and offensively gifted, the 25-year-old could see time on the second line with Rakell absent.
Harkins is relatively new to the organization, being claimed off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets. He began the season in Pittsburgh, but was sent down after four games. In the AHL, he has four goals and five assists in 11 games.
The duo of forwards will look to fill the voids left by Rakell and Rust. They also will get a chance to spark the third and fourth lines and provide more depth scoring.
In a separate move, the team also announced that defender John Ludvig has returned from long-term injured reserve.
The lineup will likely look a little different in the team’s final game prior to Thanksgiving. Expect Harkins, Nylander, and Ludvig to all slot into the lineup against the Rangers.
