The Carolina Hurricanes and Pittsburgh Penguins may be closing in on a big trade.
PITTSBURGH – The Carolina Hurricanes have been recently reported as one of the front-runners for Pittsburgh Penguins’ forward Jake Guentzel. They may be taking a lead in the race with a big scratch from their lineup.
The Hurricanes are set to take on the Montreal Canadiens, but are keeping forward Michael Bunting out of the lineup due to trade-related reasons. According to Pierre LeBrun of the Athletic, the Hurricanes have been pushing hard for Guentzel and Bunting may be a key piece of the return.
Bunting is familiar with a key figure in the Penguins’ organization. Both Bunting and Penugins’ president and general manager Kyle Dubas spent multiple seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Nothing has been set in stone yet, but it appears the trade’s centerpieces will center around Guentzel and Bunting.
