UPDATE: Harkins was re-assigned just prior to puck drop.

Ahead of their contest against the Carolina Hurricanes, the Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Jansen Harkins from the AHL.

To make room for Harkins on the NHL roster, the Penguins have also placed defenseman P.O. Joseph on injured reserve.

Head coach Mike Sullivan stated earlier that Joseph was dealing with a lower-body injury and that is why he hasn’t been in the lineup in recent games.

Joseph has appeared in five games all season and just one in the last month.

Harkins started the season on the NHL roster after being claimed off of waivers; after four games, the Penguins dropped him to the AHL roster.

Ever since being sent to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Harkins has been one of the top performers with nine points (4G-5A) in 11 games.

Sullivan stated that he planned on penciling Joseph into the lineup against the Hurricanes, but the injury is still lingering around.
