The Pittsburgh Penguins power play will be loaded with fire power to start the 2023-24 season.

Pittsburgh Penguins RW Bryan Rust is looking to find more consistency this season.

For almost two decades, the Pittsburgh Penguins have been led on the blue line by offensive defenseman Kris Letang.

The Penguins have seen Letang become the best and most successful defensemen in franchise history with his scoring ability.

Letang has long been the quarterback of the top power play unit, and when new president and general manager Kyle Dubas brought in Erik Karlsson, some questions arose.

With two of the NHL’s best offensive defensemen, people wondered which one would play on the first power play group? Would Letang be willing to relinquish his spot?

According to Greg Wyshynski of ESPN, the Penguins will likely start with Letang and Karlsson sharing a line with a man advantage.

Head coach Mike Sullivan told Wyshynski that both players take the power play very seriously and everyone wants to see what those two can do together.

Sullivan said the team will see how it goes, but if things get iffy, there are plenty of options to fall back on.

Assuming Letang and Karlsson start on the blue line, the rest of the first power play unit probably fills in with Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Jake Guentzel.

The second unit might look clustered, but Rickard Rakell and Bryan Rust will likely be the headliners.
