Multiple Key Penguins To Miss Significant Time With Injuries

The Pittsburgh Penguins will be without at least Rickard Rakell and Chad Ruhwedel for a lengthy period of time.

Pittsburgh Penguins' defenseman Erik Karlsson discusses his growing chemistry with Sidney Crosby in their first season together.

After a relatively healthy start to the season, the Pittsburgh Penguins were suddenly hit with a laundry list of injuries.

Multiple Penguins were absent from their most recent practice ahead of their match against the New York Rangers and head coach Mike Sullivan gave a rundown of the updates.

Rickard Rakell missed practice and is expected to be out ‘longer term’ with an upper-body injury.

Chad Ruhwedel wll be out week-to-week with a lower-body injury suffered in the shutout of the Vegas Golden Knights.

Bryan Rust took the ice prior to the practice, but left just moments later; Sullivan stated Rust is being evaluated for a lower- body injury.

P.O. Joseph was recently placed on injured reserve, and no new updates have come on his front; he remains out of the lineup.

Matt Nieto was given a maintenance day.

The Penguins did see defenseman John Ludvig return to practice after a stint in the AHL for conditioning; he will likely be the Ruhwedel replacement, unless he is still unable to perform.

Sullivan noted a number of names that might see their numbers called to replace the injured players.

Among those names were Jansen Harkins, Alex Nylander, and Vinnie Hinostroza who is already on the NHL roster.

Hinostroza did miss the contest against the Golden Knights, but returned to practice in a full capacity.

A fair amount of lineup changes seem likely to be right around the corner for the Penguins as they enter a tough Thanksgiving Eve matchup with the Rangers.
