If the Pittsburgh Penguins trade Jake Guentzel, there are teams reportedly ready to make a deal.

PITTSBURGH – It’s not entirely certain that the Pittsburgh Penguins have their heart set on trading Jake Guentzel, but things continue to look more likely. The Penguins are seven points out of a playoff spot and could quickly find their way back in the hunt.

The playoffs don’t seem likely, but the Penguins players are determined to fight as hard as possible. In the meantime, Guentzel will be on the shelf with an upper-body injury until after the NHL trade deadline. General managers believe Guentzel’s injury won’t negatively affect his trade value.

With that in mind, Dave Pagnotta of the Fourth Period has reported that multiple teams have been linked to Guentzel in the event he goes up for sale.

According to Pagnotta, the Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks, Colorado Avalanche, Carolina Hurricanes, Vegas Golden Knights, and the Detroit Red Wings have all expressed interest.

That’s a great deal of teams to want a piece of Guentzel, but that shows the kind of status he carries at this deadline. Teams know what Guentzel can bring offensively and how he can help a contending team fight for a championship.

Pagnotta says Guentzel isn’t interested in playing through a rebuild, and the Penguins might be gearing up for one soon. President and general manager Kyle Dubas noted the Penguins need to get younger, and Guetnzel may be an unfortunate casualty of that youth movement.

This is not to say Guentzel is an old player, but he’ll be 30 when the 2024-25 season starts and Dubas is pushing hard for a younger lineup.

The Penguins still have a chance to compete for a playoff spot, but they’ll need to come up with big wins in short order. The trade deadline is two weeks away, and the Penguins have a lot of ground to make up.
