A first goal from multiple new faces and a shutout from Alex Nedeljkovic gets the Pittsburgh Penguins back in the win column.

The Pittsburgh Penguins watched their winning streak give way to a two-game skid and the tests were only getting tougher.

Returning home for the second half of a back-to-back, the Penguins played host to the reigning Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights.

Alex Nedeljkovic was elevated off of injured reserve and immediately given the start between the pipes.

    First Period

Before Nedeljkovic could face too much rubber in his return, the Penguins took an early lead with defenseman Ryan Graves sitting in the right place at the right time.

A mad scramble around the Golden Knights’ net saw the puck land right on Graves’ stick who buried his first as a member of the Penguins.

That early goal from Graves turned out to be the only offense from either team through the first period.

Power play chances were had on both sides, but the goalies stood tall through the opening 20.

    Second Period

After a pretty low-event start to the second frame, the night of firsts continued for the Penguins.

Joining Graves with their first goals in a Penguins uniform was Noel Acciari who caught a loose puck and beat an unaware Adin Hill.

Acciari’s goal would stand as the only tally of the second period; Nedeljkovic remained perfect through two with 25 saves helping the Penguins enter the second intermission with a 2-0 lead.

    Third Period

The final period started much in the same way the second did, not a ton of chances for either team, leaving the score tight.

The Penguins took a a late penalty for too many men, giving the Golden Knights a late opportunity to pull closer.

The Golden Knights failed to convert, keeping Nedeljkovic's shutout alive.

Moments later, the Golden Knights pulled Hill for the extra attacker, but Evgeni Malkin found the yawning cage to give the Penguins a 3-0 lead.

Nedeljkovic sealed his first shutout in a Penguins uniform with a 38-save performance in his return from injury.
