The Pittsburgh Penguins have finally made a move ahead of the NHL trade deadline.

Evgeni Malkin is proving the doubters wrong this season, but Rob Rossi his decision to return boiled down to a loyalty to the Penguins and captain Sidney Crosby.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have been on a mission to clear cap space for almost a week now, and it’s all culminating in a possible move for a depth forward.

According to Elliotte Friedman, the Penguins have expressed interest in Mikael Granlund from the Nashville Predators.

Friedman followed by saying the return will be a second round pick, and the Penguins have made the move official.

This deal comes just minutes after the Penguins re-assigned both Brock McGinn and Mark Friedman to the AHL after clearing waivers.

The Penguins have also already moved out Teddy Blueger to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Granlund has reached 20+ goals multiple times in his career, but hasn’t had the same success since arriving in Nashville in 2019.

This season, in 58 games played, Granlund has scored nine goals and 27 assists for 36 total points.

General manager Ron Hextall stated heading into the trade deadline that he was looking for players with term remaining on their contract.

Following this season, Granlund has two seasons left at $5 million each year; no salary was retained on Nashville's part.
