Through four games, the Pittsburgh Penguins have gotten no production from their bottom six forwards.

One of the biggest issues that surrounded the Pittsburgh Penguins throughout the 2022-23 season was the lack of success from the bottom six forward group.

New president and general manager Kyle Dubas focused his first offseason with the Penguins on revamping that specific group, but the results are yet to show.

In fairness to the current iteration, their main goal is to keep pucks out of their own net rather than be a real scoring threat.

The only issue is that they are still expected to chip in from time to time, and they’ve only combined for a single assist through four games.

While head coach Mike Sullivan preaches patience with the group, a goal would be useful and could stop the historically bad pace they are already on.

According to Penguins historian Bob Grove, the team’s bottom six entered the fourth game of the season already on a tough trend.

Grove stated that the last time a Penguins bottom six went the first three games of a season without contributing a goal was the 2008-09 season.

The bottom six extended their goalless streak into the fourth game by once again coming up empty against the Detroit Red Wings.

Not only did they not score, but once again the group failed to even record a point.

The Penguins lineup has gone unchanged through the first four games of the season and they don’t want to be hasty with their moves, but something has to give.

Either the group finds their footing or someone pulls the trigger and makes a change.

Sullivan has said that the bottom six has had scoring opportunities, just not the touch to cap them off.

They'll want to create some luck or threaten reaching historical lows.
