The future is bright for a key Pittsburgh Penguins prospect.

PITTSBURGH – Even without a playoff appearance for the second straight season, fans of the Pittsburgh Penguins have had plenty to root for this spring. Top prospect Brayden Yager helped push his Moose Jaw Warriors to the Memorial Cup tournament for the first time in franchise history, and he didn’t disappoint in their opening match.

Despite a loss to the Saginaw Spirit, Yager was selected as the WHL's performer with two goals and an assist. The Warriors found themselves down 4-0 in the second period, but Yager and the Warriors quickly battled back.

Yager became the first Warrior to ever score a goal in the Memorial Cup when a good steal and perfect pass opened a great opportunity. In the dying minutes of the second period, Yager kicked off the comeback.

The Warriors weren’t waiting for the final frame, however as they scored two more time before the clock ran out. Yager potted his second of the match with 14 seconds left. Another fine set of passes gave Yager a ton of net to work with, and he didn’t miss.

The Spirit re-gained a two-goal lead early in the final frame, and the Warrior clawed back for one more goal in the third. Yager assisted on the Warriors’ final goal, giving him a three-point night.

Yager and the Warriors battled in their opening match of the round robin games. They’ll have more time to makeup ground and hopefully land in a prime position to strike for the Memorial Cup.
