The Pittsburgh Penguins will continue to watch their top prospect lead his team to success.
PITTSBURGH – Brayden Yager is the top prospect in the Pittsburgh Penguins system and he continues to impress with the Moose Jaw Warriors. With a 4-2 win over the Portland Winterhawks, the Warriors clinched their first-ever WHL championship and are moving on to the Memorial Cup Tournament.
The Warriors looked like one of the strongest teams in the WHL, and Yager had a lot to do with their success. Through 20 games of the WHL playoffs, Yager scored 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 total points, third in the Warriors lineup.
The next steps for Yager and the Warriors is to compete for the coveted Memorial Cup. The Warriors were the last team to advance to this year’s tournament and will battle the OHL’s London Knights, QMJHL’s Drummondville Voltigeurs, and the host city’s Saginaw Spirit.
The Warriors will look to Yager and their leaders to help bring home their first Memorial Cup. No matter what happens from here, Yager has done plenty to impress everyone. His spot in the NHL isn’t a guarantee in 2024-25, but he may be given a chance at the lineup.
If Yager can look comfortable around the NHL squad this summer, there is no reason why he shouldn’t get a chance at the lineup to start the year.
