Three Pittsburgh Penguins players have undergone successful surgeries and are beginning the recovery process.
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced that three players have undergone successful offseason surgeries. President of hockey operations Kyle Dubas stated during his end-of-season press conference that multiple players were seeking more opinions on their ailments.
In the announcement by Dubas, Penguins defensemen Kris Letang and John Ludvig and forward Matt Nieto are now in the recovery phases of their offseason surgeries.
Dubas and head coach Mike Sullivan said Letang was dealing with harsh injuries and was called a “warrior” for his efforts. According to the Penguins, Letang underwent surgery for a fractured finger. His recovery time is expected to be eight weeks.
Despite the finger injury, and possibly others considering how Dubas and Sullivan spoke on Letang, he played all 82 games of the 2023-24 season.
Ludvig underwent surgery to repair the extensor tendon in his wrist. His timetable for recovery has been set for four to six months.
Nieto dealt with a knee injury for most of the season and suffered setbacks following an initial surgery in January. This new operation was reconstructive MCL surgery on his left knee, and he is expected to miss six to seven months. Nieto's initial surgery was on his right knee.
