The Pittsburgh Penguins have added Jansen Harkins to their organizational depth at center.
With the 2023-24 season right around the corner, and despite trimming their NHL roster, the Pittsburgh Penguins have added to their organizational depth.
First reported by Elliotte Friedman, the Penguins have claimed forward Jansen Harkins off of waivers.
Formerly of the Winnipeg Jets organization, Harkins has appeared in 154 NHL games and recorded a total of 27 points (13G-14A).
Harkins’ career high in point came during the 2021-22 season when he played in 77 games and recorded seven goals and 13 total points.
With the amount of NHL talent and center depth already set on the Penguins NHL roster, it is likely Harkins will start the season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL.
In 44 games played in the AHL last season, Harkins recorded 50 points between 25 goals and assists.
Harkins is a 26-year-old second-round pick from the 2015 NHL Draft and is native of Cleveland, Ohio.
UPDATE: The Penguins have confirmed the signing and Harkins will not be immediately sent to the AHL.
Harkins has been listed on the Penguins training camp roster with about a week until opening night.
