Sidney Crosby is doing everything he can to help the Pittsburgh Penguins win, and that has helped push him all the scoring charts.
With an assist on Jake Guentzel’s power play goal against the Minnesota Wild, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby climbed another spot on the NHL’s all-time scoring list.
The assist was Crosby’s 1,534th point, giving him sole possession of 13th in NHL history, surpassing Hall of Famer and former Penguins’ teammate Marck Recchi.
Crosby said he had no idea that he had tied Recchi on the list, ironically against the Montreal Canadiens, a team Recchi played with for parts of five seasons.
It didn’t take long for Crosby to create some space between him and Recchi on the list, either as he picked up a game-winning power play goal in the third period against the Wild.
In total through 1,220 games, Crosby has recorded 568 goals and 967 assists for 1,535 total points.
Crosby has been climbing multiple spots on the all-time scoring list through the early stages of the 2023-24 season.
When the season kicked off, Crosby held 1,502 points and was in 16th; now in 13th, it won’t take Crosby long to climb another rung on the ladder.
Just four points ahead of Crosby is Joe Thornton at 1,539.
If Crosby can maintain his pace, or even exceed it, he’ll continue climbing in this season alone.
Right now, Crosby is pacing for 90 total points on the year, if he holds to that number he could finish this year within the top-10 of all-time NHL scoring.
Thornton (1,539), Ray Bourque (1,579), and Phil Esposito (1,590) could all be past if Crosby ends the year at 1,592 total points.
