The Pittsburgh Penguins are listening to trade offers.

PITTSBURGH – With the trade deadline right around the corner and a playoff spot likely out of reach, things don’t look pleasant with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Teams have been calling the Penguins about a multitude of players from all over the lineup, but a few new veterans have entered conversations.

Key names like Rickard Rakell, Reilly Smith, multiple goalies, Marcus Pettersson, and, of course, Jake Guentzel have already been discussed, but David Pagnotta points out a couple more.

Pagnotta writes that forward Noel Acciari and defenseman Chad Ruhwedel are among those being discussed.

“Teams have been calling [Kyle] Dubas and he has been listening on most of his players,” Pagnotta wrote. “Forwards Reilly Smith, Rickard Rakell, Lars Eller and Noel Acciari, defencemen Marcus Pettersson and Chad Ruhwedel, and goaltenders Tristan Jarry and Alex Nedeljkovic are among those believed to have generated various levels of discussions with other clubs.”

Ruhwedel has been with the Penguins organization since the 2016-17 season, while Acciari is a newcomer this season. Both don’t move the needle much regarding trade value, but general manager Dubas is likely already looking for significant changes.

Ruhwedel has played 323 games on the Penguins’ blue line and has consistently been a steady option either as a third-pairing guy or the seventh defender on the roster. He’s picked up 47 points (13G-34A) in that time and played in 25 career postseason games with the Penguins.

Acciari followed Dubas from the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Penguins, and he’s been a perfectly serviceable fourth-line center. Acciari isn’t providing much offense, but that was never meant to be his role. In his first season with the Penguins, Acciari has scored three goals and two assists in 44 games.

Dubas’ goal with the Penguins is to get younger; dropping Ruhwedel (33) and Acciari (32) could help with that cause.
