Jansen Harkins earned a role on the Pittsburgh Penguins, but hasn't looked the same since the start of the season.
Despite legitimately earning a role on the Pittsburgh Penguins roster out of training camp, time may have run out for Jasnen Harkins.
After four regular season games, the Penguins have placed Harkins on waivers, first reported by Elliotte Friedman.
Harkins looked like he could be a solid competitor for the bottom six, but that group has failed to post any sort of offense so far this season.
The Penguins will likely have to make a recall from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to fill the spot left open by Harkins.
There are plenty of NHL-ready options within the Penguins system, including names like Alex Nylander or Radim Zohorna.
If Harkins clears waivers, he will be eligible to be sent to the AHL and the WBS Penguins lineup.
Since the Penguins acquired Harkins via waivers from the Winnipeg Jets, the Jets have a chance to reclaim him and send him to their AHL affiliate the Manitoba Moose.
Teams across the NHL have 24 hours to put a claim in on Harkins.
When Kyle Dubas arrived in Pittsburgh he said he wouldn’t be afraid to utilize waivers and make quick decisions with the lineup, and that becomes more evident every day.
