PITTSBURGH – One of the biggest questions surrounding the Pittsburgh Penguins this offseason is what the future holds for Sidney Crosby. Set to enter the final year of his contract, Crosby is eligible to sign an extension as soon as free agency opens.

When asked about his intentions during locker cleanout day, Crosby didn’t reveal much, saying he would talk with president and general manager Kyle Dubas about everything.

Dubas later said he plans on keeping his conversations private between himself, Crosby, and Crosby’s agent, Pat Brisson.

“I know everyone will want answers; I know it will be a big topic,” Dubas said. “It’s imperative that they’re kept private between Sid, myself, and Pat Brisson.”

Crosby has always tried to make it as clear as possible that he intends to stay with the Penguins for the entirety of his career. Dubas feels the same way and added he can play for as long as he wishes.

“I think he should finish his career with the Pittsburgh Penguins,” Dubas said. “How long that is, I’m not going to put any limits on Sidney Crosby.”

Talks of Crosby leaving the Penguins have sprouted, but most of them have revolved around him playing for a competitive team. With two straight seasons without a playoff run, the Penguins have appeared to be on the outs as a contender.

Dubas plans on building a team that can still compete for another Stanley Cup, and Crosby would be a huge part of that. People may talk, but the likely outcome is Crosby staying in Pittsburgh for his whole career.

Elliotte Friedman speculated on the 32 Thoughts Podcast that Crosby's new contract would be a three-year deal worth north of $10 million annually.
