Penguins GM Fires Back at Critics

The Pittsburgh Penguins are in a tight playoff race and their general manager has no time for critics on the internet.

The Pittsburgh Penguins "core three" is in no danger of being moved anytime soon.

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins are in the midst of an improbable push for the postseason, but things aren’t all business in the front office. Not only did the Penguins take a big win over the New York Rangers, but captain Sidney Crosby secured his 19th career point-per-game season, tying him for the most all-time with Wayne Gretzky.

It’s a rare accomplishment that only those two players have ever reached. A Twitter account called @EvolvingWild didn’t understand that Crosby had already reached the achievement when he tweeted.

“Points-per-game is a rate stat. Are the Penguins just going to sit him the rest of the year?”

The account quickly realized that Crosby had already reached the 82-point mark, securing his point-per-game season, and noted he made an oversight, but a key face in the Penguins’ front office had already seen the tweet.

Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas responded to the benching tweet with an image of actor Tim Robinson from his show I Think You Should Leave. Dubas took a swing at Evolving Wild, asking, “Are you sure about that?” in meme form.

The Penguins will not be benching Crosby for any reason any time soon. He’s a big reason they are even alive in the playoff race and within striking distance.

Dubas may also be hinting that Crosby won’t be leaving Pittsburgh anytime soon. For months, many pundits (usually from Canada) have discussed the idea of core veterans like Crosby and Erik Karlsson leaving the Penguins for better teams.

Crosby is eligible to sign a contract extension this summer, and early reports indicate that something may already be in the works.
