Ty Smith and Rem Pitlick headline names placed on waivers by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
A number of surprises were expected when forming the Pittsburgh Penguins roster ahead of a new season, and the first big shock has been made.
In a new round of cuts that is presumably soon to be made, the Penguins have placed multiple players on waivers.
Among the names are a couple of surprises like defenseman Ty Smith and forward Rem Pitlick.
The rest of those on waivers are forward Jonathan Gruden and defensemen Taylor Fedun and Xavier Ouellet.
Smith being dropped to waivers was first reported by Elliotte Friedman and later backed by multiple sources.
The waiver period officially opened and it didn’t take long for the Penguins to add names on the wire.
Smith and Pitlick were both names fighting hard for spots in the NHL roster, but it seems like there are no more opportunities in Pittsburgh at the time.
New president and general manager Kyle Dubas said before he isn't afraid to utilize waivers, and this might not be the only time we see Penguins on the list.
