After clearing waivers, the Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned a struggling forward.

PITTSBURGH – With Radim Zohorna clearing the NHL’s waiver wire, the Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned him to the American Hockey League. Zohorna will return to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins after a string of brutal games at the NHL level.

In place of Zohorna’s roster spot, the Penguins have recalled defenseman Ryan Shea from WBS.

Zohorna has seen his ice time plummet over the last few weeks and his production has followed suit. In his last 18 games at the NHL level, Zohorna has only been able to put up one goal. He’s averaged just under nine minutes of ice time in that span, but has only surpassed eight minutes in four of his last six games.

In the Penguins recent overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, Zohorna saw a season low eight shift for 4:26 of ice.

In Zohorna’s place will likely slide forward Colin White who made his Penguins debut against the Hurricanes and skated on the third line in the most recent practice.

The Penguins are still waiting on a full analysis on Reilly Smith who is expected to be out long-term with an upper-body injury. Smith’s absence could determine any further adjustments that might come to the depth forwards.
