After three games and a healthy scratch, the Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned Alex Nylander.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned forward Alex Nylander to the American Hockey League following a three-game stint at the NHL level.
Nylander was recalled following a list of injuries to the Penguins lineup and was placed on the second line alongside Evgeni Malkin and Reilly Smith.
While Malkin and Smith were struggling to record points, Nylander wasn’t much help failing to record a point in his three appearances.
Nylander averaged 15:25 of ice time in his stay in the NHL and recorded six shots, but nothing else of substance.
When Bryan Rust returned to the Penguins’ lineup, Nylander was healthy scratched rather than someone like Jansen Harkins.
Nylander has the skill and good hockey sense to be an NHL regular, but his finishing ability doesn’t match.
Before the season started, president of hockey operations Kyle Dubas stated he expects Nylander to be an regular I the NHL before the end of the season.
In 11 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Nylander has five goals and three assists for eight points.
