The Pittsburgh Penguins had reason to not be happy with how their overtime period came to an end.

The Pittsburgh Penguins had reason to not be happy with how their overtime period came to an end.

The Pittsburgh Penguins lost to the Nashville Predators just 14 seconds into overtime, but it wasn’t a finish without controversy.

Just before the game-winning goal beat Tristan Jarry, Predators forward Ryan O’Reilly made a fair amount of contact with Penguins’ captain Sidney Crosby.

Judging by the replays, the play could have very easily been blown dead for interference, but the officials saw nothing wrong with the infraction.

It seemed pretty clear that O'Reilly set a pick play on the blue line and not only dragged Erik Karlsson at first, but then made clear contact with Crosby.

The Penguins players and coaches were visibly upset on the ice before departing to the locker room, and they had good reason.

According to head coach Mike Sullivan, he said he got a good look of the play and he was shocked there was no call.

When asked, Sullivan said he was not given an explanation from officials who also just quickly left the ice after confirming the goal was on-side.

Crosby said that he couldn’t speak too much on the play because he didn’t get a good look at the play.

Bryan Rust played in his first game after being on the shelf for three games with an injury; he scored in the play but was one of the players upset with the officials following the game.

“I’d love to hear what the refs had to say,” Rust said. “But, I guess we’ll never know. That’s all I’m going to say on that.”

It seems pretty clear that no one was given an explanation from officials and the Penguins are left without answers to what clearly cost them an important game.
