With two forwards absent from morning skate, the Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled Joona Koppanen.
Ahead of their contest against their cross-state rivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled Joona Koppanen from the AHL roster.
Shortly following recall, Koppanen joined the Penguins for their morning skate prior to the game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Koppanen was signed by new president and general manager Kyle Dubas early in the free agency period and joins the team with a little NHL experience.
Previously with the Boston Bruins, Koppanen has appeared in five NHL games with an assist and four penalty minutes on his stat sheet.
In 18 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins this season, Koppanen has recorded three goals and three assists for six total points.
The Penguins have been dealing with numerous injuries over the last few weeks and it didn't seem clear if another forward went down.
As morning skate kicked off, forwards Noel Acciari and Matt Nieto were absent from the ice.
