The Pittsburgh Penguins have made the long-awaited recall of their top prospect.

PITTSBURGH – At long last, the Pittsburgh Penguins are recalling one of their top prospects. Ahead of their contest against the Carolina Hurricanes, the Penguins have recalled forward Sam Poulin to the NHL roster.

Poulin is having a great season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and deserves a new opportunity at the NHL level.

Along with recalling Poulin, the Penguins have placed Noel Acciari on injured reserve. Acciari did not finish the contest against the Colorado Avalanche.

Poulin has been among the Penguins’ top prospects since he was drafted by the team in 2019. The 2022-23 season saw his NHL debut, but it was a challenging year for him otherwise. Poulin took a leave of absence to work on his mental health but has returned with a vengeance.

Injuries have derailed portions of the 2023-24 season, but when he’s in the WBS Penguins lineup, Poulin is one of, if not their best player. In 36 games played, he has scored 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 total points.

Poulin made his NHL debut against the Calgary Flames in late October of 2022 and recorded his first point in that game. His assist on an Evgeni Malkin goal was his only point in three NHL appearances.

It’s unclear how the Penguins will shuffle their lines with Poulin coming up or if he’ll even crack the lineup right away.
