The Pittsburgh Penguins have made a big recall ahead of a season-defining contest.
PITTSBURGH – Ahead of one of their biggest games of the season, the Pittsburgh Penguins have made a roster move that may impact the starting lineup. The Penguins announced they have recalled top prospect forward Sam Poulin from the American Hockey League.
Poulin is having a fantastic season at the AHL level, and the Penguins want to see what he can do with more NHL time. He played three NHL games before being briefly re-assigned. In those three games, he did not score a point and averaged 7:47 of ice time.
The Penguins have also been dealing with an illness that has been running through the room. Goalie Tristan Jarry and defenseman John Ludvig missed the last two games because they were sick. Forward Michael Bunting was an early exit against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Top goalie prospect Joel Blomqvist was recalled to backup Alex Nedeljkovic in New Jersey while Jarry was still out.
It’s possible Poulin’s recall comes out of precaution if the Penguins are still dealing with whatever bug is going around. Either way, this is another new opportunity for Poulin to make noise at the NHL level.
