The Pittsburgh Penguins kicked off a big day for Pittsburgh sports with a shutout win.

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins and Pittsburgh Steelers have shared game days for five straight weeks but this one was more important than the rest, for a few reasons. In Buffalo, the Steelers are preparing for a delayed playoff game; meanwhile in Pittsburgh, the Penguins faced off against one of the hottest teams in the NHL.

The Seattle Kraken came to town riding a nine-game winning streak, but the Penguins shut down their momentum with a 22-save shutout win. The shutout was Tristan Jarry’s fifth shutout of the season, good to tie him for the league lead.

Being named the game’s first star gave him the opportunity to do a quick victory lap with the Steelers’ iconic Terrible Towel.

Following his career-high fifth shutout, Jarry noted that Pittsburgh is a special place for him and he understands what the Steelers mean to the city.

“This is my home,” Jarry said. “We all follow the Steelers. We’re all rooting for them; it’s going to be an exciting game. We’re all going home pretty quick here.”

The Penguins moved their game against the Kraken up to accommodate the postponement that came from the Steelers and Buffalo Bills playoff game. The players didn’t seem to mind, however, and are gearing up for a lengthy break before their next contest.

Fans in Pittsburgh showed plenty of support for the Steelers while at PPG Paints Arena, and the players are rooting for a big game for the Steelers.

“The fans came out with great energy,” Marcus Pettersson said. “Hopefully it can transfer over to the Steelers.”

The Penguins took a big two points in their run for the postseason, while the Steelers are ready to kick off in their first of hopefully a few playoff games.
