The Pittsburgh Penguins are locking up their top prospect with a new two-year deal.
PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Penguins are still early in their long offseason but are locking in a top prospect for another couple of seasons. The Penguins announced that they have re-signed Sam Poulin to a two-year contract.
Poulin’s new deal will take him through the 2025-26 season and carry an average annual value of $775,000 at the NHL level. In six games of NHL experience in his career, Poulin only has one assist.
During his end-of-season press conference, Penguins president and general manager Kyle Dubas said he expects Poulin to be a regular NHL player to start the upcoming 2024-25 season. In 41 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League, Poulin scored 16 goals and 15 assists for 31 points.
Poulin also picked up a single assist in the WBS Penguins' two-game stint in the Calder Cup Playoffs.
While he’s gotten cracks at the NHL roster before, the upcoming training camp could make or break for Poulin and the Penguins. If he can continue to play at a high level, he should earn a regular role with the team.
