In their first game back home, the Pittsburgh Penguins pick up two more huge points in the standings.

The Pittsburgh Penguins returned home after a perfect three-game California road trip and looked to continue their winning ways on their own ice.

With Tristan Jarry back between the pipes and Vinnie Hinostroza in for Jeff Carter, the Penguins were ready to bring to good vibes to PPG Paints Arena.

    First Period

Through most of the first period, both teams were getting outstanding chances and taking plenty of shots on goal, but the goalie stood tall.

Jarry and Sabres’ netminder Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen were stealing the show until Evgeni Malkin broke the ice from behind the cage.

In the final minute of the first period, a Ryan Graves shot missed the cage, but Malkin, from the corner, bounced it off Luukkonen’s back and into the net.

    Second Period

The second period started very much like how the first did in both teams traded chances, but the goalies stopped everything they faced.

With the minutes winding down in the second frame, Drew O’Connor was fed a pass with some space and he took full advantage.

O’Connor squeezed on past Luukkonen to get the monkey off of his back and record his first tally of the season.

The Penguins carried their 2-0 lead into the final frame and had a power play opportunity to begin the third period.

    Third Period

It took all of 27 seconds for the Penguins to convert on that man advantage and make it a 3-0 game.

At first it seemed an Erik Karlsson shot was deflected by Sidney Crosby, and he was recorded as the goal scorer.

After further review, you can see a Sabres' defender is the one who deflected the puck past his netminder.

Regardless of who scored, the Penguins took a 3-0 lead early in the final frame, and looked to keep the foot on the pedal.

Jarry continued to make save after save, and kept the Penguins in as the Sabres pulled Luukkonen for the extra attacker.

After a few attempts, Karlsson finally potted an empty netter to give the Penguins a 4-0 lead.

That is where the score would finish, extending the Penguins win streak to four games and the third shutout on the year for Jarry.
