Yorkshire Police have opened an investigation into the death of former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Adam Johnson.
The death of former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Adam Johnson is being investigated by the South Yorkshire Police.
Investigators were called shortly after the incident with the former Penguins player occurred and were at Utilita Arena in Sheffield for a couple of days.
Yorkshire Police have since left the scene at the arena but have opened a wider investigation that they say is going to ‘take some time,’ due to the nature of the accident.
Their official release states:
-“Since Saturday, detectives have been carrying out a range of enquiries including reviewing footage, talking to witnesses and seeking the advice and support of highly specialised experts to seek to understand the circumstances surrounding what happened. We have also been working closely with the health and safety department at Sheffield City Council, which is supporting our investigation.”
Also, according to their release, it’s a standard practice that all sudden and unexpected death are investigated for full clarity.
Johnson suffered a severe injury when he took a skate blade to the neck and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police have requested that no one speculates about the incident.
Johnson played 13 NHL games with the Penguins and was in his first season with the Nottingham Panthers of the EIHL in the United Kingdom.
