Head coach Mike Sullivan hinted that changes might be horizon for the struggling Pittsburgh Penguins.
After a raucous first few games of the season, the Pittsburgh Penguins have more than struggled to find consistency in the win column.
Nine games into the season, and the Penguins are 3-6-0 and in dead last in the Eastern Conference.
Many will continue to vouch that it is still early in the season, but this isn’t a team that wants to play from behind down the line.
Head coach Mike Sullivan is far from pleased with the Penguins performance, so far, and could be ready to shake things up.
“Right now, we’re finding ways to lose,” Sullivan said. “We got to find ways to win. So do we need to make some changes? We might have to. We’ll look at that.”
It’s not clear what kind of changes Sullivan may be looking at, but there are obvious problem areas in the early stages of the season.
The fourth line of Jeff Carter, Matt Nieto, and Noel Acciari are yet to record a point through 10 games.
Tristan Jarry’s only two wins this season have come from shutouts, while he’s given up 18 goals against in his four other starts.
The power play showed some life against the Anaheim Ducks, but came up on the wrong end of a crucial situation.
Losing the way they did against the Ducks sucked the air out of the team and turned what could have been a momentum carrying win into a disastrous loss.
“This one is a discouraging one,” Sullivan said. “I thought for most of the night we carried the play. We came out on the wrong side of the score.”
The season is young, but the Penguins are hungry; they’re not satisfied one bit with their spot and will need some sort of change to wake them up.
