A terrifying moment took place during the Pittsburgh Penguins game.

PITTSBURGH -- A scary moment took place during the third period of the Pittsburgh Penguins versus Tampa Bay when referee Steve Kozari left on a stretcher following a hit.

Kozari collided with Lightning defenseman Haydn Fleury near the center ice and lay motionless afterward. He stayed down for several minutes as the training staff rushed onto the ice to treat him. He was eventually taken off on a stretcher.

The ESPN broadcast confirmed that Kozari did have "a moment of unconsciousness" but was able to move all extremities as he was being taken off the ice.

Play eventually resumed with Tom Chmielewski as the single referee and then two line judges. At the time, Pittsburgh led 4-2 over the Lightning. They went on to win 5-4 despite a late-game push by Tampa Bay in the final period.

There has been no update on Kozari since the game ended. Inside the Penguins will continue to provide more information as it becomes available.
