The Pittsburgh Penguins are still in good enough position to go all-in at the trade deadline.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are still in good enough position to go all-in at the trade deadline.

PITTSBURGH -- When Kyle Dubas last spoke to the media, he stated that he would need until about the All-Star break to get a good feel and idea of what the Pittsburgh Penguins will need around the trade deadline.

At the time of that press conference, the Penguins were 11-12-3 and closer to the bottom of the Eastern Conference than they were a playoff spot.

In the 12 games since, they’ve rattled off an 8-3-1 record and are just a couple of good bounces away from sitting in a wild card spot.

With momentum trending in their favor, Dubas should feel good enough to make the Penguins buyers around the deadline and add a quality piece who can help them over the hump.

After missing the playoffs last year, the Sidney Crosby and his Penguins teammates have a ton to prove but could still use outside help.

Early reports have indicated that the Penguins are looking into adding on the blue line, and that was backed up by a link to Ilya Lyubushkin of the Anaheim Ducks.

There are depth options available in house in Pittsburgh, but as they still sit outside of the playoffs, they may want to look for a proven commodity.

The Penguins are lining up to be one of the most interesting teams for the remainder of the 2023-24 season; not only with their fight back to the postseason, but a ton of questions are still floating around.

Pretty much all of Dubas’ offseason acquisitions are yet to really reach their full potential; can they turn things around and perform as expected?

Jake Guentzel is in the final year of his deal; does he stick around past the deadline? What about next season?

If the Penguins miss the playoffs for the second straight year, does that mean the end of one of the best trios in NHL history?

Dubas will have his hands full nearing the deadline and beyond, but 2023-24 might be an all-in year for the Penguins and it’s possible they poke around some of the top names on the league’s trade block.
