The Pittsburgh Penguins could very well have a pair of skaters head to the 2024 NHL All-Star Game.
PITTSBURGH - Sidney Crosby has already been selected to the 2024 NHL All-Star game, but could one of his Pittsburgh Penguins teammates join him in Toronto?
The NHL will let the fans decide who the final 12 players are heading to Toronto and there is a case to be made for at least one more Penguins representative.
While Kris Letang, Erik Karlsson, and Evgeni Malkin are all big names in the league and are having respectable seasons, Jake Guentzel is shining this year.
Guentzel leads the Penguins in points with 43 (18G-25A) and is one of the most under-appreciated stars in the league.
“Obviously Guentzy is having a great season,” Drew O’Connor said. “It would be great to see him go, as well.”
The Penguins top line of Guentzel, Crosby, and Bryan Rust were among the best analytical lines in the NHL until Rust went down with an injury.
Even without Rust, Guentzel and Crosby continued to produce as a pair of the top point scorers at even strength.
While Crosby is putting up a season that could earn him Hart Trophy conversation, Guetnzel is having an outstanding run in the last year of his contract, forcing things to get interesting.
With no new deal signed and the Penguins still floundering for a playoff spot, Guentzel has become a top name to watch as the trade deadline nears.
Guentzel’s agent, Ben Hankinson, said that his client would like to stay in Pittsburgh, but didn’t rule out things getting messy.
Before the trade deadline can arrive, however, Guentzel has put up numbers that make him deserving of a spot in the 2024 NHL All-Star Game.
