Banner Flies Over Liverpool Match Bashing Penguins Ownership

Fans in Liverpool feel strongly about their opinions of their and the Pittsburgh Penguins ownership group.

What was the best moment of the 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins season?

When Fenway Sports Group took over as majority owners of the Pittsburgh Penguins, there was plenty of reason of optimism.

The Penguins got a new group in charge that knows what it takes to be successful and are capable of building a winning team.

As the 2022-23 season rolled along, however, fans weren’t so certain FSG was paying attention.

General manager Ron Hextall was putting together a team not fit for playoff hockey and the fans recognized that.

While multiple home games heard chants of ‘fire Hextall,’ fans began to wonder if FSG was paying any attention.

Fans of other sports teams owned by FSG have wondered the same thing, and a small chunk have become more vocal than others.

Along with the Penguins, FSG also owns the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool FC of the British Premier League.

During Liverpools’ most recent against Tottenham, a plane few over the stadium carrying a banner with an anti-FSG message.

“LFC-SOX-PENGUINS- SAME PROBLEMS. FSG OUT.”

While the Red Sox and Penguins haven’t reached their potential in the last few years, it’s intriguing catching this sort of message come from Liverpool fans.

Liverpool has regularly finished in the top five of Premier League standings and won the league’s championship in 2019.

It’s been a little over two years and fans in Pittsburgh have asked the question if FSG is paying attention plenty of times.

According to the Penguins and Dave Beeston of FSG, the search is on for a new GM and the main goal is to once again compete for a Stanley Cup.

Liverpool did win their match over Tottenham 4-3.
