A former depth option for the Pittsburgh Penguins could find a new home with the Edmonton Oilers.

Brandon Sutter played three full seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins and was one of the most consistent faces in the lineup during his time in black and gold.

During his time with the Penguins, Sutter only missed three regular season games and recorded 78 total points.

Following his departure from Pittsburgh, Sutter played the next six seasons with the Vancouver Canucks and played his last game in the NHL on May 1, 2021.

Despite nothing having seen NHL action since the shortened 2020-21 season, Sutter might have a chance as he signs a professional tryout offer with the Edmonton Oilers.

Sutter and fellow 34-year-old forward Sam Gagner were both offered PTOs by the Oilers.

Over his 13-year career, Sutter played in 770 games and has produced 289 career points (152G-137A).

It will be interesting to see if Sutter still has what it takes to play at the NHL level despite missing the past two seasons.

COVID-related recoveries are what held Sutter out of the lineup for the 2021-22 season.

Oilers' radio voice Bob Stauffer was first to report that Sutter would be offered a PTO a little over a week into the month of August.

Sutter arrived in Pittsburgh with a first round pick in a trade that sent Jordan Staal to the Carolina Hurricanes.

That first-round pick ended up being Derrick Pouliot; Sutter was later traded to the Canucks for Nick Bonino.
