Kyle Dubas Not Joining the Penguins; Says Maple Leafs or Nothing

The Pittsburgh Penguins will have to look past Kyle Dubas in their search for a new general manager.

The Pittsburgh Penguins officially have the 14th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, but should they be looking to trade it with under two months until the draft?

Kyle Dubas and the Pittsburgh Penguins have been brought up in the same sentence countless times to kick off this offseason.

The Penguins need a new general manager and Dubas could be on his way out of the Toronto Maple Leafs front office.

It looks like Dubas has taken himself out of the running for any GM openings, however, as during his season ending press conference he said it’s Toronto or nothing this summer.

Dubas stated that it’s been a tough year for his family and if he isn’t back with the Maple Leafs for the upcoming season, he will be taking time away from the sport to recalibrate.

Despite multiple teams in need of a new general manager and Dubas sitting on an expiring deal, he says he won’t be appearing with another team in the coming weeks.

It is believed that the Penguins are also closing in on their decision and could have names hired as soon as the end of the week.

At first, it seemed as if things were lining up perfectly for Dubas to join Pittsburgh’s front office, but now he’s thrown cold water on the fire.

It’s been reported that the Penguins have wrapped an opening round of interviews and of the names listed, Dubas was nowhere to be seen.

The Penguins will likely have their front office staff set soon, and the pipedream of Dubas in charge has seemingly come to an end.
