The Philadelphia Flyers have fired general manager Chuck Fletcher, Daniel Briere steps in as interim.

Fans of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers have been amongst the most angry across the entire league, with quite a few calls for changes to the respective front offices.

On multiple occasions, Penguins fans have called for the firing of general manager Ron Hextall, while Flyers fans openly booed their GM Chuck Fletcher.

While Hextall still holds his position, Fletcher has fallen as the NHL’s most recent general manager to lose his job.

It was announced by the Flyers that they have relieved Fletcher of his duties as general manager and president of hockey operations.

Former Flyers forward Daniel Briere is stepping in as interim general manager after being a special assistant to Fletcher.

Under Fletcher, the Flyers found themselves in freefall in the standings and stuck with numerous bad contracts within the team.

The Flyers hold a 24-30-11 record and sit seventh in the Metropolitan Division.

There has been turmoil within the Flyers all season, and while new head coach John Tortorella has attempted to bring a culture change, there has been some questions over his coaching style.

The final straw for Fletcher was his mishandling of the NHL trade deadline; James Van Riemsdyk needed to be dealt out of Philadelphia, but Fletcher failed to do so.

The Flyers next game comes against their cross-state rival and it’ll be a battle of to angst-ridden fan bases.
