The Pittsburgh Penguins saw their chances at the postseason shrink, but they still have great odds.

Despite a terrible loss to the Detroit Red Wings, the Pittsburgh Panthers are still in good position to reach the postseason.

Things have gotten tighter and inconsistencies continue, but the Penguins have played well enough to maintain great odds for the 2023 postseason.

The numbers on moneypuck.com over the last few weeks have fluctuated a fair bit, but the odds remain in positive favor.

According to Money Puck, the Penguins have a 73.7% chance of making the playoffs; while the percentage is a decrease from it’s peak, that’s still a great number.

The New York Islanders are not only in the first Eastern Conference wild card spot, but also lead the Money Puck odds with an 89.9% chance.

In third, behind the Penguins falls the once red-hot Florida Panthers; they followed a three-game winning streak with a four game skid and now hold a 29.5% chance of making the playoffs.

The Panthers sit three points behind the Penguins in the standings and don’t have games in hand to play with.

If the Panthers and Penguins aren’t careful, there’s not just a Buffalo Sabres team right at their heels, but also the Ottawa Senators, and Washington Capitals.

The Sabres are two points back of the Panthers with a game in hand and a 3.8% chance of reaching the playoffs.

The Senators recently defeated the Penguins and are also only two points behind the Panthers with a 2.3% chance at the playoffs.

The Capitals are the distant longshot, but they could luck their way into a few wins if Alex Ovechkin continues to score copious amounts of goals.

With a .7% chance, the Capitals aren’t dead yet.

Even with the loss, the Penguins control their own destiny, they’re not out of the woods yet, but luckily have one of the easiest schedules left among the bubble teams.

It’s more important than ever that the Penguins string together a couple of wins in the time they have left.
