Erik Karlsson is new to the Pittsburgh Penguins, but one of the best in the league.

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby shares his early impressions of training camp and building chemistry with new teammates.

One of the newest faces on the Pittsburgh Penguins roster may be in for a setback season, but he is still among the best players in the NHL.

According to the NHL Network in their ranking of the top 50 players in the league, new Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson landed at 29th.

Karlsson is coming off of a historic season that saw him post 101 points as a member of the San Jose Sharks.

In all 82 games of the 2022-23 season, Karlsson recorded 25 goals and 76 assists and despite a minus-26 rating, he took home his third Norris Trophy.

Karlsson’s offensive ability is unmatched, especially from the blue line and he is rightfully being recognized as one of the best in the NHL.

When the NHL network ranked the top 20 defensemen in the NHL, they placed Karlsson eighth.

It won’t be likely that Karlsson replicates his 101-point season, but his offensive prowess should still be around and could be good for upwards of 70 to 80 points.

The defensive ability might not be at the same level, but there is a lot to be excited about with Karlsson on the Penguins.

Karlsson is the first Penguins player to appear on the top 50 players list being put out each week by the NHL Network.
