Kyle Dubas might find himself right back in the running for the Pittsburgh Penguins' front office.

Kyle Dubas might find himself right back in the running for the Pittsburgh Penguins' front office.

Just when you thought the Pittsburgh Penguins were nearing the end of their front office search, another name has entered the fray.

This time, however, it isn’t a new candidate that the Penguins are looking into out of nowhere.

Initially, it seemed like Kyle Dubas took himself out of any conversation that wasn’t with the Toronto Maple Leafs, he said it was ‘Toronto or nowhere’ at his end of season press conference.

When Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan spoke with the media, it seemed as if Dubas wanted to remain in Toronto, but the team closed the door any him anyway.

Despite being deep into their search to fill front office openings, Elliotte Friedman said the Penguins are expected to reach out to Dubas and see where he stands.

According to Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada, the Penguins are going to at least ask for permission to speak with Dubas.

The Penguins are reportedly in their second round of interviews, and have a solid list of candidates, but Dubas would be a guy who trumps them all.

From the very beginning Dubas was considered to be the top dog for any team to hire for their front office.

Dubas did note that his decision on continuing to manage the Maple Leafs was going to be made with his family in mind, but Shanahan may have forced a change of heart.
