Josh Archibald played in 76 career games with the Pittsburgh Penguins and now has no intentions of playing in 2023-24.
Just weeks before training camp across the NHL are set to open, former Pittsburgh Penguins forward Josh Archibald seems to be stepping away from the game.
Archibald was recently signed in free agency by the Tampa Bay Lightning after returning to the Penguins organization for a season.
The Lightning announced that they placed Archibald on unconditional waivers with the purpose of contract termination.
In a release from the Lightning, Archibald’s agent informed general manager Julien BriseBoise that he did not intend on playing or attending upcoming training camp.
Archibald himself talked with BriseBoise, as well.
The exact reasoning for Archibald’s departure isn’t known, but BriseBoise wished his family the best on their future endeavors.
Archibald signed a two-year contract with the Lightning when free agency opened this summer.
Through parts of eight seasons in the NHL, Archibald has played in 305 games with 83 total points.
Archibald was drafted in the sixth round by the Penguins in 2011 and was part of the organization when they won the Stanley Cup in 2017.
During the 2022-23 season, Archibald returned to the organization and played in 62 games recording 12 points.
