Don't expect any more additions to the Pittsburgh Penguins roster as training camp closes in.

Don't expect any more additions to the Pittsburgh Penguins roster as training camp closes in.

With training camp right around the corner and discussions regarding a certain free agent taking a back seat, the Pittsburgh Penguins are likely done making moves for the summer.

New president and general manager Kyle Dubas stepped into the Penguins front office and pretty quickly got to work adding key pieces to the lineup and subtracting a ton of dead weight.

Through Dubas’ first few months in Pittsburgh, he’s made huge improvements to both the on-ice product and front office staff.

Erik Karlsson, Reilly Smith, and a slew of depth players will create a brand new look for the Penguins on the ice, while Jason Spezza and new hire Doug Wilson usher in a fresh start for hockey operations.

Could more names have been coming to the roster, however? Dubas has promised he will continuously work to make the team better.

Not long after Karlsson was acquire, Dubas said there were likely no more major moves coming to the Penguins organization.

Despite that statement, it didn’t take long for the Penguins to be linked to free agent forward Tomas Tatar.

Adding a guy like Tatar could be considered a ‘major’ move by the Penguins, but with camp closing in and no new updates on that front, it seems unlikely he’ll be coming to Pittsburgh.

Dubas stated that he would likely focus on signing guys to professional tryouts rather than full contracts, and he did just that.

Libor Kajek, Mark Pysyk, and Austin Wagner were all signed to PTOs and each have their own chance to make the roster out of camp.

With those PTOs signed on and no movement on the Tatar front, it seems pretty likely that the roster as it stands right now is the one the Penguins will enter camp with.

When training camp opens up, even without new additions, there will be plenty of battles and competition to keep an eye on.

The Penguins are yet to release a full roster or schedule, but training camp is set to open on September 21.

The 2023-24 season will be important for the Penguins, and they should be a much improved squad from last year.
