The Pittsburgh Penguins looked like a broke team for an entire 60 minutes in their final meeting against the New York Rangers.

With every passing game, the stake rise for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and their final battle with the New York Rangers capped off a crucial two-week stretch.

The kind of run that could make or break an entire season, and with a streak of volatility, it was up to the Penguins to finish strong.

A win was made all the more important when the Florida Panthers capped of a victory of their own to add pressure to the wild card chase.

The Penguins needed to come out strong against the Rangers, and they did; after the first 20 minutes, the Penguins were leading in shots on goal and scoring chances.

It was the Rangers who took a 2-0 lead into the first intermissions, however, thanks in part to Jeff Carter and Brian Dumoulin continuing to pull this team backwards.

On the game’s opening goal, Carter lost his man in front of the net who cleaned up the garbage.

In the closing minute of the period, the Penguins were looking to kill off a penalty and Dumoulin failed to get the puck out the zone.

A failed dump went straight to a Rangers defender who found Artemi Panarin with a wide open shot.

Before the second period could even reach the 10-minute mark, the Rangers potted three more to go up 5-0 in front of their home crowd.

Tristan Jarry was pulled following the fourth goal, forcing Casey DeSmith to come in relief for the third time in Jarry’s last six starts.

The Rangers continued their domination for a sixth goal before the close of the second period.

There were plenty of penalties from both teams in the third period, but no teams were able to capitalize.

Rangers' goalie Igor Shesterkin was making huge, almost show boat-like saves in his crease and still maintaining his shutout.

The anger was visible from the Penguins, but nothing came from it.

A 6-0 shutout loss to finish off one of the most important weeks of the season.
