Mario Lemieux joined in on the celebration of Kris Letang's 1,000th game with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
PITTSBURGH - From one French-Canadian to another, Mario Lemieux left a special message as the Pittsburgh Penguins celebrate the career of Kris Letang.
Heading into his 1,000th game, Letang has been the center of attention and one of the Penguins’ all-time greats made sure to congratulate and state his appreciation.
Lemieux said to Letang in a statement that ‘its hard to believe you’re celebrating your 1,000th game.’
Both Lemieux and Letang are natives of Montreal, Quebec and Lemieux made sure to thank the franchise’s best defenseman in their native language.
Lemieux is no longer the Penguins majority owner, but has been around from the very beginning of Letang’s career.
Letang was drafted in the third round of the 2005 NHL Draft and has recorded 686 points (154G-532A) in his first 999 games.
With five years remaining on his new contract, and much like Lemieux said in his statement, Letang still has plenty of hockey to play.
