Tomas Tatar might find a new home soon, but it won't be with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
It wasn’t long after the Pittsburgh Penguins acquired Erik Karlsson in the move of the summer that they were linked to free agent forward Tomas Tatar.
Kyle Dubas and the Penguins have completely revamped their bottom six forward group and Tatar was seen as someone who could be a boost of offense for the team.
Tatar would also be an easy replacement for Jake Guentzel who is expected to miss the first couple of weeks of the season to recover from ankle surgery.
The Penguins were reportedly in on Tatar and had conversations with the forward, but it seems like both parties will go in a different direction.
According to Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Tatar has switched agencies and is likely to sign a deal in the near future.
Friedman says that the Penguins had interest, but were not the only team involved.
In a post-recording update, Friedman said that he isn’t convinced the Penguins will be Tatar’s ultimate landing spot.
Tatar is likely to sign with an Eastern Conference team, but it won’t be the Penguins.
The Penguins are close to entering training camp and already have a surplus of depth forwards and frankly don’t have space for Tatar.
With four professional tryout offers signed an over a dozen forwards fighting for spots, Tatar would have been too expensive to fit under the cap.
