The Pittsburgh Penguins will not move up the draft board as decided at the NHL Draft Lottery.
Just as many suspected and as the odds have showed for weeks, the Pittsburgh Penguins will pick 14th overall at the 2023 NHL Draft.
The Penguins entered the NHL Draft Lottery with a 1.5% chance of ‘winning’ but would only be able to move up 10 spots.
Had the lottery balls fallen their way, the Penguins only would have been able to pick as high as 4th overall.
The 14th pick in the opening round is still the highest selection the Penguins have had in over 10 years and is likely going to be a point of contention for the Penguins as the offseason progresses.
A new general manager coming to town will have say on whether or not the pick stays in the hands of the Penguins or is dealt out for other assets.
It's rare the Penguins have a first round pick, but former general manager Ron Hextall was reluctant to deal the pick this season.
The Draft Lottery was looked at as the 'Connor Bedard Sweepstakes' and the first overall pick fell to the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Blackhawks entered the lottery with the second best odds behind the Anaheim Ducks.
