The Pittsburgh Penguins got a huge win, but so did the Florida Panthers and New York Islanders.
The Pittsburgh Penguins need as many wins as they can get in their final hand full of games, and they got one against a tough Minnesota Wild team.
Despite a massively important win, the odds of the Penguins reaching the postseason didn’t budge.
Thanks to blowout victories from both the Florida Panthers New York Islanders, moneypuck.com didn’t move the needle much on percentages.
All three teams now have three games remaining, but the Penguins third in line with a 42.7% chance to reach the playoffs, according to Money Puck.
That’s only a .5% increase from the previous day; had they lost, however, the numbers would have taken a nosedive.
The Penguins odds of making the playoffs had they lost to the Wild in regulation would have fell all the way to 21.2%.
Their win, matched with the Panthers and Islanders wins kept everything at about the same level.
The Panthers hold their spot in the first wild card position and have a 75.8% chance of making the playoffs, a whole .1% increase.
The Islanders cling on to the second wild card spot, but have the highest odds with 80.6%.
For the Penguins to make the playoffs, all they need to do is win more games than either the Panthers or Islanders.
It’s looking like the Eastern Conference wild card race is coming down to the final game of the season and the Penguins are going to need some outside help.
The Penguins will remain focused on their games and hope for the best from certain teams around the NHL.
