The playoff odds don't look great for the Pittsburgh Penguins, but the chances are still there.

PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Penguins have lost their games in hand against the New York Islanders and Florida Panthers, but that doesn’t mean they’re totally out of the running for the postseason.

With four games left in the season, in order to make the playoffs, all the Penguins need to do is win more games than either the Islanders or Panthers.

What are the odds they can pull that off? Well, not great.

According to moneypuck.com, the Penguins have a 42.2% chance of making the postseason, well behind the numbers from the Islanders or Panthers.

Money Puck gives the Islanders a 77.5% chance and the Panthers a 78.7% chance.

Considering all three teams have four games remaining, it’s completely fair to look at each of their remaining schedules and draw assumptions over how they’ll finish.

On paper, the Islanders have the easiest schedule remaining and the Panthers have the toughest; that puts the Penguins in the middle ground, but they need to win as much as possible.

The Penguins take on the Minnesota Wild, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, and Columbus Blue Jackets down the stretch.

Those last two teams are still looking to lock up a first overall pick and should be easy targets, but it’s up to the Penguins to keep up their intensity.

There are two spots open and three teams fighting, the Penguins are doing all they can to not become the odd man out.
