The Pittsburgh Penguins are likely dealing with yet another injury with the emergency recall of Alex Nylander.
PITTSBURGH - Alex Nylander was a healthy scratch in his final handful of game on the Pittsburgh Penguins roster, but has another chance at the lineup.
Ahead of their match against the Minnesota Wild, the Penguins have recalled Nylander from the AHL on an emergency basis.
Nylander has played six games in the NHL this season and only recorded an assist while usually playing with Evgeni Malkin and Jason Zucker.
Since the recall is an emergency, it is likely there is another injury within the Penguins’ forward group.
It’s not immediately clear who the injured player could be since only Nick Bonino, Drew O’Connor, and Danton Heinen were the only forwards at morning skate.
The Penguins re-assigned Nylander three days ago after being a healthy scratch for eight consecutive games.
UPDATE: Nylander was present for warmups but was subsequently sent back to the AHL.
The Penguins also elevated Mark Friedman's recall from emergency to normal.
