To make the playoffs, the Pittsburgh Penguins will need more from their captain.

With four games remaining in the 2022-23 regular season, the Pittsburgh Penguins sit outside the playoff picture looking in. Their captain, Sidney Crosby, is on the brink of another milestone as he nears 1,500 career points. But if it feels like he's been knocking on that door for a while, it's because he has.

The Penguins are coming off one of their worst losses this season to the New Jersey Devils. It would be hard to find any positive takeaway's from anyone's performance in that game, but something has seemed to be off with Crosby for a little while now.

Crosby is closing out what should be considered another terrific season, already eclipsing a point per game as he has done in every season of his career and nearing his first 90-point campaign since 2018-19. However, with the Penguins teetering on the brink of missing the postseason, the Penguins generational talent has gone silent.

Since March 1st, Crosby has scored four goals and 16 points in 18 games. The Penguins record in that span is 8-9-1, and they have fallen out of the playoff picture heading into the final week.

To make matters worse, the numbers for the Penguins star have continued to drop. Crosby has scored five points in the Penguins last ten games and has been left off the scoresheet in six of those matchups.

The team surrounding him may be one of the worst we've seen in several years. But the point remains that for the first time in a long time, Crosby's performance has dipped when it matters most for the Penguins.
